DLC Pack #1 Now Available! + FAQ Answers
AGIWTF4HAM has been out for a week now! Hooray! I’ve had the absolute time of my life watching people download the game, plan their campaigns, and even get around to playing the game with their friends! That’s really cool! I’ve been having a really fun time playing the game with my friends too! To celebrate, I’m finally getting around to answering a few game-related questions that have been floating around in my Twitter mentions since launch:
"When is all the future DLC coming out? Is it going to be free?"
There’s about four DLC packs that will be dropped in the following weeks after the core game’s release. Each pack will contain one or more new playable character(s) as well as other stuff like new game rules and play modes, new cars and inventory items, and new story locations and settings. Each pack will also kinda vary in content length. One will be dropped right now just as this devlog is released and the other will be dropped a week from now. The next will be dropped a week from then, as will the next. Hopefully I’ll be able to abide by this! There’s also other little individual DLC things that won’t be released in scheduled packages and those will just kinda come out whenever they’re ready. Also, everything will be free!
"Which characters will be released as DLC?"
We’re releasing character sheets for all the Blue Lions, as well as each house leader (including Yuri). Making every single character from Fire Emblem Three Houses is terrifyingly out-of-scope for our dev team right now, but DLC Pack #1 will be coming with a PNG/PSD set for a blank character sheet so you can add any character, person, or OC you want!
"Some of the characters are imbalanced. Sylvain and Ingrid have stats that total up to +2 and Felix and Dimitri’s total up to +1. Is this unbalanced?"
Probably. That’s on me for being bad at math. Everything in this game has been engineered to emphasize storytelling and roleplaying more so than structured exploration and combat. The character sheets were the first thing that were made for the game and they were built just by “getting a feel for what seems right” instead of doing what should have been the right thing to do: properly adding and subtracting point totals until everyone has appropriately accounted for, fair statististics. This question has been sitting with me for a while as I evaluate what gameplay balances I need to fix for the future, but right now I can tell you that our dev team’s initial campaign has not had any problems with unfair, imbalanced rolls at all so unfortunately, character sheet stats aren’t much of a priority for me to go and tweak right now. Sorry!!
"Why does the DC system go up to DC10 when the game uses only 1d8?"
Some characters have stats that grant bonuses that can let a roll exceed 8. Not only that but your GM is able to grant you appropriate bonuses to rolls and there’s character abilities coming up in the future that will be able to grant you roll bonuses. Our campaign’s Dimitri literally just rolled a 12 last night! DC10 is meant to be a check for a near-impossible task and while it is rather high, it’s not completely impossible to pass with enough bonuses and luck. To all my GMs out there: don’t feel the need to restrict yourself to the even-numbered DCs that were listed in the core rulebook! Use the numbers in between! It’s totally okay to make something a DC1 or a DC5 or a DC9!
"The skill descriptions are vague. What’s going on in Felix and Dimitri’s active skills?"
Dimitri gets a +2 bonus on any check or action that has to do with religion and faith. Some examples include saying a prayer to ward off a spirit, making a check to successfully identify a mysterious religious artifact, or making a shivers check to get a feel for any bad vibes in a church or place of worship. Felix is a bit of a trickier one. Sorry about the way I worded it! I’ll fix it if it’s a significant inconvenience. He gets a bonus if the GM decides to test the players’ cognition and perception of reality. This game is inspired by cosmic horror just as much as it is inspired by ghost-hunting mysteries, and we imagine Felix seeks being more grounded in reality than the rest of the gang. He’d get a bonus if like… the room starts spinning and warping and he has to roll to keep his footing steady, or to check if he’s not hallucinating or dreaming anything.
"Do you guys take donations?"
We’re not making this easy for you. We’ve disappeared into the woods and you’ll have to use a bloodhound to track down all the crumbs leading to our Paypal pages.
"Why is this entire thing written in a 16:9 ratio and at such a small resolution?"
Because I had no idea that this game was actually going to be released. Also, because this game is optimized to be played on a phone, tablet, or laptop/desktop computer. I tried doing a test print of this game and fucked up immensely.
"Speaking of, will there be physical prints of this game?"
Probably not? I did not optimize any of this stuff to be sent to a printing press, sorry!! If you want a physical print of this game, you’re welcome to print it yourself at home or your local printing store, just as long as you don’t resell it!
"What’s your favorite restaurant?"
Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.
Okay, that’s all the time I’ve got! I’ve got to get back to writing and drawing new DLC. See you guys next week (I hope) when it’s time to release a new DLC pack! Here’s a little teaser of that down below!
